Georgia: The Gateway to the Caucasus

Georgia is small, but its position at the intersection of Europe and Asia gives it outsized weight in Eurasian trade — a case study in relevance built on connectivity rather than scale.

This fifth issue of Stratigma’s Central Asia & Caucasus Outlook Series looks at how Black Sea access lets Georgia do something few of its neighbors can: connect landlocked Central Asian economies to European markets by sea. Two decades of investment in rail, highways and port infrastructure, paired with a deliberately open, trade-friendly regulatory environment, have reinforced its role within the Middle Corridor.

None of it works without cooperation — Georgia’s transit relevance depends entirely on coordination with its neighbors, which makes regional partnership as much a strategic asset as geography itself.
